Entrepreneur by Necessity
I’m curious about your entrepreneurial journey! Personally, I had not planned on owning a business and being my own boss. I was frustrated with my job and wanted greater personal freedom and the ability to to create a better financial life for myself and my son.
An opportunity came along and I jumped in with both feet. (and a big fat mortgage on my little home!) With everything on the line I had to make it work no matter what. With a whole lot of determination, I started Somerville Travel Inc. in 1993.
I built a Canadian independent travel agency which generated 3 million in sales annually and after two short years I had the business running systematically. It was profitable and I was free!
I learned powerful lessons building my company about the importance of systems and how all the elements of leadership, operations, money, team building and marketing & sales fit together to create a world class business that could run independently of me.

Life as a small business owner was initially very difficult. This included hiring (and firing), year end financials, industry regulations, incorporation, marketing, improving customer service, and finding time in the day to eat! There was a lot more to being a business owner than I had anticipated.
Fortunately it became easier the more systems and structure I put in place. Thanks to the strategic work done to create systems, I had my company running independently of me within 2 years.
I had time for me and soon after opening the agency I met and married my soul mate. Today I am the proud mother of three boys, devoted life partner to Brent Rasmussen, peacemaker, entrepreneur, Rotarian, and Professional Certified Coach and Organizational Development Consultant.
After seven years of business ownership, I sold my profitable travel agency at a time when most agency owners couldn’t give theirs away and almost immediately began my career helping other business owners.
The Road to Becoming A Business Coach
I never intended to be a “Coach”. Looking back I didn’t understand what it meant to be a coach versus a consultant, mentor or advisor.
When I first started helping business owners I did a lot of telling and I couldn’t figure out why no one was doing as they were told.
“The truth is none of us like being told what to do!”
I realized I needed skills to empower my clients to take action. I learned those skills at Royal Roads University in 2011 and received a Graduate Certificate in both Executive Coaching and Organizational Development. I then became accredited by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach and am proud to be the Vancouver ICF 2014 Business Coach of the Year.
Along the way I had the privilege to work alongside of Michael Gerber, Author of The E-Myth, Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What To Do About It. As one of the E-Myth program advisors I had the privilege of meeting with small business owners worldwide. Their stories broke my heart and gave me resolve to someday create an affordable business development program that was both relevant and practical. Ten thousand hours of development (and counting) and 300 clients later my proven system for helping struggling small business owners is being used in both group and individual business coaching programs. All 52 processes cover everything you need to build, run and sell your company.
For three and a half years I woke up every workday reaching out to small business owners just like you all around the world to talk about what was and wasn’t happening in their companies… over 3000 conversations. The conversations were the same; small business owners shared their fear of failure, shame, broken dreams, heartache, financial pain and a deep desire to be free again. Owning a business should be a joy not a burden. You start a company to give you more life not to suck the life out of you.
Most not being able to afford the help they needed, I made a promise to myself to someday find a way to help. That day is here and Systems Business Coach® programs are the way to prosperity and personal freedom for business owners.
Systems Business Coach® is a step-by-step business development program for small business to achieve operational effectiveness and financial success. I structured the program to help you.
if you have the right tools and a business coach who listens.
I live my life by the Rotary 4 Way Test and use it in everything I do:
My passion is to show you how to achieve tangible results in your business. Together, we can figure out what’s getting in the way of you taking on the world.
